TITLE: Elementary School classroom teacher, GR 3-5 with $6,000 signing bonus
REPORTS TO: Building Principal
JOB FUNCTION: The teacher shall serve as the educational leader in the classroom
DISTRICT DESCRIPTION: Houghton Lake Community Schools has approximately 1,200 students and is located in the center of the Lower Peninsula in northern Michigan. Our families enjoy the benefits of living in an area thriving on tourism as most of our district surrounds beautiful Houghton Lake. We have about 80 schools of choice students from outside of the district and county. Currently, 17% of our students qualify for special education services.
The District has two preschool classrooms with additional preschools available within the community. There is one PreK-6th grade elementary school, one 7th -12th grade junior/senior high school and extensive alternative education opportunities. Career and technical education opportunities are available as well as severalAdvanced Placement and Dual Enrollment college courses.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Establish a classroom structure that values positive relationships through intentional implementation of the district curriculum and the vision of high-quality instruction.
Establish a classroom culture that supports non-academic needs of all students in order to remove barriers that interfere with academic success.
Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.
Plan, prepare and deliver lessons and instructional materials that facilitate active learning.
Develop and deliver lesson plans and assessments that are in accordance with the district provided curriculum and state course content expectations.
Observe and evaluate each student’s performance and development.
Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment.
Use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction.
Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students, provide appropriate feedback on work, and use information to adjust teaching strategies according to student need.
Maintain accurate and timely records of students’ progress and development.
Update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by laws, district policies and school regulations.
Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues, and parents regarding student progress and student needs.
Participate in collaborative and collegial department/grade level, school, district, and parent meetings.

the aptitude to discuss subject-specific content instruction and the drive to try out new ideas to improve
the capacity to align curriculum, instruction, and assessments while responding to the individual needs
the competence to collect and analyze data to inform instructional decisions;
the ability and desire to design and utilize formative assessments to modify and adjust instruction on a
the skill to implement a tiered system of instruction within the classroom to meet the needs of all
the ability to help create and thrive in a professional environment that is one of mutual respect,
teamwork, and accountability
Must possess a valid Michigan Teaching Certificate, and certification in Elementary School K-5 all subjects, K-8 all subjects in self contained classroom ZG.
Dual credentialed in another subject/content area
$6,000 signing bonus to be paid in conjunction with newly updated pay scale per the new Master Agreement with HLEA approved June 7, 2021.
