This position is a seasonal, limited-term position (up to 120 days) based on funding. This position will be contracted through Manpower, a temporary work agency. Employees will be required to sign up for, and be paid through Manpower. The position works under the direction of, and reports to, the Park Conservation Staff Specialist. The reporting location is the Walker River State Recreation Area, located at 211 E Walker Rd in Yerington NV. Housing may be available. Typical workdays will be M-F 6:00 am – 2:30 pm, but hours vary based on project need.
The Park Conservation Technician will be conducting ecological restoration and campground beautification through invasive species removal and native plant re-vegetation within the Walker River State Recreation Area. Park Conservation Technicians may also work on recreational trail construction, fence construction and may work in conjunction with other State Parks field staff, providing on the ground support to larger project operations.
Job Functions

Both independently and under the guidance of a Supervisor:


– Utilize hand tools, power tools and backpack sprayers to conduct invasive plant removal and control.
– Utilize hand and power tools to conduct native plant re-vegetation and restoration.
– Utilize hand and power tools to conduct campground enhancement projects, recreation trail construction, and sign/fence installation.
– Install, maintain, and operate a variety of irrigation systems for re-vegetation purposes.
– Identify and plant seeds for use in plant propagation and re-vegetation.

Communicate effectively and professionally with park staff, agency partners, and the public.

Maintain accurate records for timekeeping and accounting purposes. Fill out and returns time sheets on time, as required.

Drive and operate four-wheel drive vehicles on rough unpaved roads.

Follow all state policies and safety procedures.

Other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions
Employee will work in an outdoor setting with varying weather conditions, including, but not limited to, extreme heat, dry conditions, rain, snow or hail, and extreme cold.
Position may occasionally be required to work around heavy machinery in hazardous environments. Environment is generally dirty, with prolonged exposure to conditions such as dust, fumes, noise, or odors. Frequent interruptions to planned work activities occur.

A valid driver’s license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.

High School Diploma or GED
